What is a Thermal Auricular Candle Treatment?
Ear candles are used widely throughout North America and Asia. The use of ear candles to treat a variety of ear related problems has been known for centuries, having been used by the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks.
The Thermal Auricular candle is not so much a candle but more like a hollow tube made out of cotton flax. To stiffen the flax, it is impregnated with extract of honey and herbal or essential oils (in particular chamomile, sage and St John’s Wort), the healing properties of which have been known for hundreds of years.
The making of the candles is a complex process and all genuine candles are made in the traditional manner. Pam uses Biosun natural ear candles.
What happens in a treatment?
The treatment is very gentle and relaxing and may take up to an hour depending on the condition being treated. The candle is placed in the ear orifice and ignited. It is only allowed to burn to within 4 inches of the end of the candle. As it burns it produces a gentle, local heat. The warm air combined with the oil and herbs, soften the wax and draws it into the base of the candle.
The mild heat also stimulates the blood and lymph circulations, therefore boosting the body’s natural cleansing. Pressure is regulated and balanced within the sinuses. The candle is then removed and the ear and head and neck are gently massaged. The treatment is repeated on the other ear and finally the face is massaged paying particular attention to the sinus areas.
What conditions can Ear Candles help?
Ear candles can help with the treatment of sinusitis, rhinitis, compacted or excess earwax, and irritation of the ears including tinnitus. It is also suitable for the treatment of headaches and migraines. It can help excessive snorers. Neuralgia (pain caused by irritation/ damage to a nerve) can be eased.
It is not suitable for those with perforated ear drums, where grommets are in place, or for those who may have an allergy to the ingredients. It is safe and gentle for children. it is a wonderful, calming treatment and is particularly beneficial for those in the music industry who need to look after their ears.
